Well here I am again, pounding the pavements and going nowhere quick, but that is beside the point. I am going somewhere, albeit slowly.
Yes, you guessed it, I am backing running (or should I say jogging). I have just completed week 1 of the couch to 5K challenge (again) and I must say that I am delighted that I started it for the second time.
It was tough getting back out there, the hardest step is getting out the door the majority of the time, especially in this cold weather that we have been having. Once you are out the door and moving though, it’s not too bad, the cold is a motivator if nothing else.
I downloaded a new app to my phone to help me on track. It’s from iTunes and is called C25K Free. It is an eight week programme, jogging three times a week, and eventually be able to job 5k. I like this app, however it isn’t for those that need a pat on the back as you go. It tells you when to warm up, run, walk, cool down, and when you are half way through your workout. That’s about it, it doesn’t give you any tips or tricks like some of the other apps but it lets you listen to your own music as you run which is always a plus.
So week one consisted of a five minute warm up, alternating jogging for 60 seconds with walking for 90 seconds and a five minute cool down for a total of thirty minutes. I must admit I found the second day the hardest but by day three I was really happy with myself.
I may regret saying this, but bring on week 2!
