Couch Potato to 5k Runner: Week 1

runI have always been on the heavy side and it has never really bothered me. My friends like me for who I am, not what I look like and for those you judge me by my size I don’t want them to like me anyway.

My weight fluctuates but even at my lightest (and fittest) I was never a size zero and I don’t think I would ever want to be. While my weight doesn’t bother me I would like to be fitter than I am so have finally taken it into my own hands and taken up running.

I have always hated running but looked longingly at those who do it daily so I have sucked it up and decided to take the Couch to 5k challenge. So following the podcast I will hopefully be able to run five kilometres in a matter of weeks.

I have come to the end of week one and to be honest it has been tough going as I have never done anything like this before but it has been rewarding and I look forward to starting week two. I like to run in a secluded spot where there is little chance of being seen as I would hate to subject the world to my red face and heavy breathing on a regular basis but that is just me. My goal is to be able to run in public without being a complete embarrassment.

I am hoping by writing these weekly updates you my lovely readers will help to keep me motivated and if anyone is planning on joining me or is already doing it I would love to hear from you. Also if there is any runner out there maybe you could let me know what are the best earphones to use while running as mine keep falling out! Any helpful tips are welcome.

  1. Have been doing the program for a while and I’m loving running now – like you I like to run away from people, feel more comfortable and more relaxed! I really like the Lidl sports earphones – they’re cheap but good quality sound.

  2. I’m on week 4 of C25K- Harder than I thought it would be- but doable! I used to listen to music, but now I run on a hiking trail and I don’t- I have come to enjoy my “quiet time” and the “sounds of nature”…as cheesy as that sounds. 🙂 Good luck and keep up the good work!

  3. Best of luck! I hate hate hate jogging where there are loads of people! It makes me so self conscious and I start to panic! Doesn’t help the breathing haha! Can’t wait to hear how it all goes 🙂
